Are you craving a cozy fall home right about now? If you’re anything like me, the countdown to fall starts as soon as the last firework fades on the fourth of July. Yes, yes, I have issues. But you already knew that…
Now that all the fall merch is out in stores I feel like I’m allowed to go all in on pumpkin spice and snuggly throws. You too? Awesome!
Here are 13 ways you can make your home cozy for fall.

1. Pile on the cozy throw blankets
Put your summery throws (if you have them) into storage and add one or more throws to the living room couch and your favorite armchair. Look for materials like faux fur and chunky knits and patterns like plaids in warm, rich colors.
2. Change up your toss pillows
Same as the throw blankets, you’ll want to swap in warmer colors and cozier fabrics. And more is more! This is the season to snuggle in with that pumpkin spice latte and binge some Netflix, and nothing is better for that than a nest of pillows to snuggle into.
3. Candles, candles, and more candles
Nothing is cozier than the flicker of candlelight. Bonus points if they’re fall scented! My personal faves are Macintosh apple, red currant, and anything smoky or leafy smelling. Add candles anywhere and everywhere.
4. Pepper in decor accents in a warmer color palette
You can likely shop your house for this one. Think wooden trays, deep green objects, leather accents — tones and textures along those lines.
5. Update your mantle
Or if you don’t have a mantle, update your shelves. Forgo the light and airy summer thing for a fuller, more textured feel. Layer in artwork, dried florals, candles (love those candles!), and found objects with a bit of wear to them. And if you want to add in some pumpkins, I won’t be mad at you π

6. Speaking of pumpkins, add some outside
There’s nothing cozier or more fall-like than coming home to a riot of pumpkins and cheerful mums on your front porch. Add them to the curb too if you’re feeling extra festive! Dried cornstalks will also give that autumnal vibe and carry you through to Thanksgiving.
7. Change or layer up your curtains
Swap those summer sheers for rich velvet or nubby textured curtains in deeper shades of your favorite accent colors. Moody florals are also a stellar option for a cozy fall home.
8. Stack logs next to your fireplace
If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, it would be a travesty not to add a pile of logs to the hearth. Even if your fireplace is gas, you can have them out for show.
9. Trade your faux plants for more seasonal options
Those big faux palm leaves are killer in the summer, but come fall they look a little out of place. Consider putting those away for the season and using something like olive, eucalyptus, or maple branches.
10. Swap your bedding
Put away the gauzy white duvet and layer on those flannel sheets and oversized throws. Add a few accent pillows to make your bed look extra cozy and inviting.
11. Accessorize with books and board games
Putting out reading materials and games to play will remind everyone to settle in and slow down during the season. Something about a book by the fire just screams fall, doesn’t it?
12. Layer in accent rugs
And added layer of cozy warmth under your feet will amp the fall feel through the roof. A few sheepskins or vintage scatter rugs go a long way.
13. Add a new welcome mat
A cheerful welcome mat in a classic plaid or with a cheeky fall saying is the perfect way to great guests who swing by for some hot cider.
