Thanks so much to @apartmenttherapy for featuring our secret garden at night bedroom! I have to say though, the comments threw me for a bit of a loop because there was much concern that this felt too grown up to be a kids' room 🤔⁠

I mean, that's the beauty of kids (and people in general) -- they're all different! After reading the comments I asked the girls if they felt like their bedroom was boring and they looked at me like I had three heads 😆⁠

We're all finding our little corners to take some time for ourselves over here. I like to take my coffee outside and listen to the birds in the morning. Matt retires to the media room and surrounds himself with (very loud) music.⁠

Do you have a room that you're constantly stealing

Do you have a room that you're constantly stealing from to decorate other rooms? Our living room is that room for us. Ironically, this was the first room to be "finished" in this house. But as we finished other rooms, I kept picking away at this one. And once we finish the basement? We didn't really know how we wanted this room to function anymore. I'm still a ways off from figuring that out, but I do know that these white walls are not my jam. I love them in other people's houses but they don't feel quite right in ours. Plus, we're surrounded by thick woods so we always have this funky greenish cast bouncing off of them. Until I'm ready to tackle another room, I'm thinking a simple coat of paint will work wonders. I'm obsessing over beautiful russets and rusts right now... That could be a beautiful complement to all the black and blue we have going on in the rest of the downstairs don't you think? Decisions, decisions... .

During the makeover of my daughters' bedroom, they became fixated on the idea of having a couch in here. Even though they also have a cushy bench in the reading nook...⁠

But finding a 40" couch (settee, whatever)? So. Hard. Even if everything wasn't closed. That's a weird size. ⁠

You know where I finally found this? In the pink and glitter spackled kid's department of @homegoods! They reopened just days before the One Room Challenge reveal.⁠

I'm telling you. A miracle.⁠

So, the point of this random story is to be open to all possibilities. You can find "real" home decor in the damndest places. Even the kids' department between a flippy sequin caticorn pillow and a baseball mitt shaped bean bag.⁠
